Computer-aided learning is very important for students. I’ve noticed a number of things that occur for my own students that are using online resources for learning histology:

  • Online learning resources like Histology Online provide more visual information than histology textbooks, and contain a lot more learning components.
  • The use of a lot of high quality images to depict characteristic histological features of all cells, tissues and organs makes it easier to learn.
  • Hyperlinking to points of reference within an image has been very useful for students
  • Review quizzes are excellent self-learning resoruces and are used extensively to prepare for examinations.
  • Students complete many of the learning objectives when and where they choose - this may be at home, in the library. I’ve noticed it promotes collaborative learning within groups of friends.
